It’s just a couple of weeks until Samsung’s UNPACKED event, on September 4th, when we’ll see the Galaxy Gear smartwatch officially launched. The newest leak today comes from SamMobile, and it seems the Galaxy Gear could be released in several colors.
This new rumour suggests that the Galaxy Gear will initially ship in four colors: orange and gray, as well as the more traditional white and black. The black, white, and gray are all to be expected, but the orange color seems kind of leftfield. A week later, Samsung is said to be releasing a more flashy white gold color variant of the Galaxy Gear, so if you usually prefer to wear more metallic jewellery, you’re probably best holding out for that.
There’s been a flurry of rumours around the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, so it’s difficult to separate the fact from the fiction. The screen of the device is rumoured to be around 2.5 inches. While that might seem pretty small for a high-tech piece of equipment, the wearability of the Galaxy Gear is also important. No one wants to look ridiculous sporting a massive device on their wrist; it still needs to be a watch size. The current trend for smartphones is bigger and bigger, but there’s a point when it just becomes a tablet.
The spec for the Galaxy Gear is also looking pretty good. The screen resolution is 320 x 320, with a Samsung Exynos 4212 dual core 1.5GHz. It’s likely that you’ll need to have a Samsung Galaxy phone to make the most of the Galaxy Gear’s features, so if you’re thinking about getting the S4 or S4 mini, this could help sway your decision. It apparently has a camera in the watch strap, and tiny speakers in the watch clasp. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see it properly – all eyes will be on Samsung come September 4th.
