A writer for Android Central claims to have received leaked pictures of the new Nexus 7 tablet.
The website also appears to have obtained pricing information for the new Google device.
Google hasn’t confirmed anything about a new Nexus 7, but there’s a big event planned for 24th July, and many Android devotees believe that a revision could be on the cards.
Of course, Google may just use the event to show off the latest version of Android, or the Moto X phone, but these leaked images point to the intriguing possibility that the new Nexus 7 will be on display.
We’re not yet sure if the images are a prototype, but the tablet appears to have been made by Asus, who had already confirmed a new model of the Nexus 7 was due out this month. This new Nexus 7 looks similar to the previous model, but it’s black, and it features a 5 megapixel rear mounted camera, as well as the front mounted camera. The volume and power controls are in the same place as last time and the microUSB port is also the same.
The tablet specs feature a Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 4 GB RAM and a 1080p display. It is expected to have a range of on-board storage options, from 16 GB to 32 GB. The new Nexus 7 appears to have an upper and a lower speaker positioned near the USB port.
Finally, the source of the claimed that the Nexus 7 was loaded with Android 4.3 instead of 4.2.2.
New Nexus 7 prices were also leaked, suggesting that the revised device will cost $229 (£149) for the 16 GB model and $269 (£179) for the 32 GB. However, there may be more options to choose from, such as wi-fi only models or 4G cellular data models.
The Nexus 7 rumour could be confirmed or denied next week, so keep the 24th July in your diary.
