Apple (AAPL) is said to be working with Foxconn Electronics with plans to move the production of the Mac Mini back to the United States. According to Tech Crunch, this won’t necessarily be anything new since Foxconn (2354.TW) already has nearly 15 facilities in operation with the U.S. The plans for Apple moving Mac Mini production into the U.S. centers around the handling of the upstream supply chain. Because the Mac Mini doesn’t have external product needs such as monitors and associated components, it’s the perfect candidate to move into the U.S.
According to Digi Times, shipments per unit for the Mac Mini are expected to reach in the neighborhood f 1.4 million units in 2012, which represents an increase of 40%. In 2013, Mac Mini shipment units are expected to rise another 30% to 1.8 million units.
