There’s a new trend unfolding the online retail sector called Green Monday, a day where online traffic, sales, and transactions have been soaring in the month of December.
Retailers are loving this trend as it adds to the growing momentum of online shoppers on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. According to Wikipedia, Green Monday is defined more specifically by business research organization comScore as the Monday with at least 10 days prior to Christmas. In 2009, $854 million was spent online in the US on Green Monday, with sales in 2011 reaching $1.133 billion.
Walmart.com, for example, saw the biggest traffic day of year in 2011. And according to Joel Anderson, president and CEO of Walmart.com, “Given this highly competitive season, we are living up to our commitment with even more big savings online before Christmas that keeps more money in [shoppers’] pockets this year…” .
Green Monday falls on the second Monday in December and is becoming a trend as online retailers are seeing huge traffic spikes to their websites during this day. It’s exciting for online retailers because it shows that the holiday shopping spirit is continuing as we approach Christmas.
Now all I need to find out is what the mobile traffic and device breakdown is for Green Monday (my work here is never done…)!
