Well, as you can imagine I was excited to see the iPad make it onto the platform during last night’s debate between President Barack Obama and Presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The question from Candy was, in essence, how do we compete with jobs here in the United States in a way that will encourage people like Apple to stop shipping jobs to China for the manufacturing of the iPad, iPhone, and other Apple products?
The answer from Mitt Romney (and I’m a republican) was sad, at best. Basically, all Romney did was insult the country of China and the workers who are literally slaving just to feed their family. Worst, the families in China are having to send their young children out to work all day in jobs that are no better than slave labor. And I think its sad that Romney decided to answer the question by insulting the people in China. Now don’t get me wrong, from a political and societal stand point, it’s the laws and government in China that are facilitating the corruption and theft that takes place in that country. But the people, the workers in China are simply trying (just like you and me) to create a better life for their families.
The answer from Obama, I thought anyway, was so much better in that he said “some jobs just aren’t going to come back to the United States.” The low paying, low labor jobs are the ones that are getting shipped over seas. And President Obama desires to do is create high tech, high paying jobs here in the United States. And Obama wants to create government programs that help facilitate and provide incentives to companies that have “high tech jobs” as a goal here in the United States.
Even Steve Jobs said that the low paying jobs aren’t coming back to America – it’s just the reality we have to deal with. But Obama is good with that and wants to invest in education in technology, engineering, and high tech, high paying jobs here in the United States.
Obama said that there are some jobs that just aren’t coming back here to the United States. Instead of the low paying, low wage jobs that are getting shipped to China, let’s create high tech, high paying jobs here in the United States.
Here’s the video of Obama and Romney clashing over the question of Apple, iPad, and jobs:
