Facebook Reaches New Milestone

Facebook – the social network that started in a college dorm room on Harvard’s campus is celebrating a new milestone today with the announcement that they are now 1 billion users strong.

That’s in stark contrast to what we saw in the movie The Social Network where founder Mark Zuckerberg and crew were celebrating 1 million users.  This definitely isn’t the only milestone Facebook hit this year.

They also became a publicly traded company (NASDAQ:FB), where today they are ironically trading up currently 0.6% at 21.97 per share.

Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement this morning with an official blog post:

This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.

If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.

Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.

I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.

So where does Facebook go from here?
