Just because they were just steam rolled by Apple doesn’t mean Samsung is going to lay down and die. They believe there’s still uncharted territory out there with the most recent example being the announcement of the Galaxy Player 5.8 media player phone. The device is 5.8 inches (obviously) which means it fits nicely into the arena phablet arena – the hybrid of a smartphone and a tablet. It’s comes stocked with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), the Samsung WhizTouch interface, bluetooth 4.0 and a front facing VGA camera. This particular device seems to be targeted at students, or the intellectually types, as it’s pre-loaded with content from Samsung’s Learning Hub. There isn’t a release date yet for the Galaxy Player 5.8, and it could be announced by Samsung this week at IFA along side an updated Galaxy Note announcement.
