In a move that gives us yet another glimpse into the tension between Apple and Google, Apple announced they will no longer include the YouTube app as the default video player in future iOS releases, beginning with iOS 6. This move shows us, if nothing else, that when Google launched their Android OS, Apple was not pleased with the decision and has since come to see Google as a direct competitor in the mobile market space. However, don’t think for a minute that Apple is dumb enough to completely cut the rope from YouTube – whenever you view a YouTube video in the Safari browser, the YouTube app will launch automatically (smart move by Apple?). Regardless of the intentions by Apple to to start weening itself from Google and the YouTube app, let’s not forget that Google has recently launched their Chrome browser app for iOS, which by all measures is also a direct competitor to Safari. Although from my initial experience, I much prefer Safari on the iPhone but Chrome on the iPad is pretty sweet. Thoughts?
