There just so happens to be a reason after all as to why Apple CEO Tim Cook was hanging out in China yesterday (I’m being facetious of course…). Yesterday, news broke that China has granted permission to Apple to release the new iPad (or iPad 3) officially into what is Apple’s largest and most profitable market.
Tim Cook was in China yesterday under a closely guarded agenda that included talks with Beijing’s mayor and a visit to Apple’s (legitimate) flagship store there in the capital city. I say ‘legitimate’ because in China, there are also lot’s of fake Apple stores popping up.
It can be expected that the new iPad in China will be of the WiFi only type due to the nearly insurmountable hurdles required to access the government controlled data network in the country.
Still, China is Apple’s biggest and most profitable market. And it’s well worth the time and effort for the CEO to do some facetime in the country.
