iPad Still #1, But Kindle Fire A Strong #2
The tablet market is filling up fast with its share of competitors. Tablet growth is expected to continue at a blazing pace as the total number of tablet users is expected to reach 89.5 million by 2014. The number one leader in the tablet space is the iPad, obviously. And the iPad’s dominance over the tablet market is decisive and clear. To be expected of course, since in my opinion, the iPad literally defined the tablet market. But a clear and decisive second place goes to the Amazon Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire sold like hot cakes leading into the Christmas holiday. And web traffic on the Kindle Fire was up 122% in the week following Christmas. Amazon sold approximately 5 million Kindle Fire tablets in Q4 2011. Here’s a graph from Chitika that maps out the rest of the tablet market – with the iPad clearly being the leader.
